 Interview By Danny Robertson

We spoke to Solsikk's frontwoman Vykki, who gave us on update on this British melodic metal quartet's recent activities.

How did the members of Solsikk first meet?

Chris and I grew up together in school many moons ago, Matt used to play with Chris in their previous band Biomechanical and Mark we found floating around on the net looking for a muso's, gave him an audition and he blew us away, :)

Who or what were your main influences and sources of inspiration back then?

I have so many influences ranging from different eras and many genres and still do, also just life in general what we see around us, how people act towards us can stir many emotions, its hard not to create and draw from that.

Last year you released your debut CD, the EP "Volatile Territory" - how long did it take to put that together?

Around 4 months, after faffing around deciding what to go on etc.

How did your guest appearance on Forever Never's second album (on the track "Exitdose") come about?

Do you know I can't remember haha I think I was just chatting to Renny (FN) on the net and he asked if I would come give it a bash for a demo, the band had a listen and liked what i'd done so asked if i would do the full record. We changed a few vocal bits from the demo, Renny added his magic, and that was that :) awesome bunch of guys much love for Renny and George they are top lads :)

You're currently working on your debut full-length album - how's that coming along?

It's going great, we have re-produced a few older tracks that had been written a while ago and writing the last few songs of new material as we speak. I 'm loving it, interesting how each song progress's through a pattern of different emotions and situations, all my lyrics and feel of vocal performances come from personal experiences, I'm an emotional person and I think that reflects in my vocals as well as lyrics.

Has a release date for it been set?

Not as of yet we are making sure we are all happy with everything. No point in doing something if your gonna do it half heartedly :), hope you guys and gals like what we produce, we are in talks with a few labels but I can't say anymore than that.

What do you feel have been your biggest challenges since Solsikk formed?

Oh wow, ....er well I've had many not really band related as such....... I suppose one would be to just enjoy what I do and not let negativity effect me in a bad way, to just use it to create.... just as i've done before :)

You've also produced your own solo work - how would you describe this to people? Is there much crossover betwen your solo and Solsikk material?

Like I've said before, I have influences from all genres, so I have to create all genres, I think if you pigeon hole yourself into one style, your neglecting your creative flow, also writing something completely different gives you so much more of a wider scope to express yourself. I also write poems, just to get stuff out you know.

Which current acts do you feel you can relate to, or share the most commonground with?

So hard to answer this as again it relates to my previous answers that I have influence from everything. I feel personally that I share different aspects of what i do with different people, musicians, bands etc, not just with music but also performance, fashion, image, etc, I'm a creative person  an respect anyone who creates anything so that I suppose is my most common ground.

What were your last three CD purchases?

Ah ha now that would be telling :D

What's next for Solsikk after the release? Where can we expect to see you next?

We will be gigging and gigging and some more gigging haha :) and hopefully with fingers crossed and all you peeps like our stuff out there, you will see us everywhere ;P

Any last messages for people?

If you like us, buy our shit, come to our gigs, have a beer bought by us, hang out with us, you are the people who really matter, you are the ones that put people like us where we are :)
