Interview by Eetu Niskanen

An interview with Maya from Deathlike Silence, the finnish gothic metal band that in this year has released the second album named Saturday Night Evil.
How would you describe the music of Deathlike Silence to people who have never heard you?
The music of Deathlike Silence is melodic, dramatic and "easy listen" heavy metal, spiced with lyrics out of this world and occasionally a few from this world too.
Gravedigger Metal with a gentlemans touch.
You joined the band back on 2003, how have you grown as musicians since then?
Well, Deathlike Silence was grounded on 2003. And from those days on every song we play and gig we make pull us thighter together and from that comes the unique sound of us.
Everyone of us have made a long journey with music and severall bands untill now, when we have found
eachoter. Oh, how romantic...
How would you describe your voice?
I think it's quite big comparing to my real size, well so says the
people, and i'm honoured by it. I think it has metal, drama and power.
I`m not one of the girls who sings beautifully. I mostly yell. Not...
Have you ever had vocal training?
My education in singing is classic as also in piano, theory etc.
Could you tell us something about the other bandmembers?
They are all lovable motherfuckers. And they are all blondes
except Mr.Catafalque and Mr. Ward. Hugs from me !

You released your second album this year, how much work did it take?
Well, a lot. I have to admit, that there were some days in the studio I just would have like to strangle the producer and myself (metaforically speaking) for not getting anything right or as it shouldbe or something or I dont know...
That´s always the case when you have to work with a schedule. But after those problems in the beginning, everything went pretty smooth and we managed to pull out a very good new record. And we are all very proud of it. No pain no gain.
Is there lyrical theme behind the album?
Yep. Death, afterworld, demons and a few mayhems as a desert.
What is your personal favourite song from the album?
Personally I like all the songs, but if I had to choose it would be Burning Flesh. I think it`s a tribute to all the witches and women who have been burned and killed for nothing.
You call your music ''gravedigger metal'', where does the name come?
I think Mr.Catafalque knows the answer for that question better than me.
Mr. Catafalque: I think nobody remembers where it came from in the first
place, but we had already a song called Six Feet Under The Ground, and
we had a real hearse to carry our instruments, so go figure...)
What are the plans of Deathlike Silence for the future?
More gigs, records, fans, drinks and records. And some records.
And of course our ultimate goal is conquer the world with our music.
Muahhahhaa.
Is there anything readers/fans should know that I haven't asked?
Buy our records and have a lovely summer !
