The 8-minute epic opening track "St. Michael's Nightmare" kicks things off in fine form, with the operatic vocal intro provided by Zuberoa as the buzz saw like guitar riff joins in. This is a solid opener and Zuberoa proves that she can do more than just the operatic stuff. There is a lot going on here including a cool Egyptian sounding bit in the middle and some violins as well. Male growly vocals are paired off quite well with Zuberoa's eclectic style. Actually, with everything going on here this song is difficult to describe, it must be heard. Track 2 "Nocturnal Flowers" starts off heavy, but once again goes off into different directions. Of the four songs, this is the most accessible. Zuberoa's vocals totally steal the show here and once again the male brutal vocals are included, but only a little. "Lies In Your Eyes" begins with a heavy, relentless guitar riff that really gets the track off to a frenzied start. The final song "Ishtar" starts off with a violin solo before getting heavier and truly fast near the end. This is a good closer and it includes all the elements that make this CD an enjoyable listen.
Hopefully the music contained on "Secrets" is just a taste of what we can expect in the future from this very promising band. This EP will serve as a strong introduction to fans of the power metal/ gothic genre. Actually, I have always had trouble with the gothic metal label. Why, just because they have a female singer? I don't get it. I would just describe Diabulus In Musica as good, heavy music that is far beyond the gothic categorization.
