AmartiA - "In A Quiet Place..." (2011)

Review by Tony Cannella

On their fourth full-length album "In A Quiet Place…", the French progressive rock/metal band AmartiA treat their fan base to acoustic re-workings of some of their best songs. There is certainly a lot of music to sift through on "In A Quiet Place…" with the whole thing clocking in at a healthy 67-minute long. "Child Fire" opens with some beautiful piano and is a strong opener and a good indication of what is to come. I was really quite impressed with the vocals of Britta Herzog. Probably the biggest surprise on "In A Quiet Place…" is AmartiA’s rendition of the Iron Maiden song "Blood Brothers" (from Maiden’s "Brave New World" album), it was an interesting choice of covers but the band does it justice, albeit with a vastly different arrangement. There is also plenty of variety and tempos throughout the album which keeps things interesting and moving along at a good pace. Some highlights include: "Magic Harmony", "Chosen One", "Delicately", "Not A Detail" and "Ascension". It’s not perfect but there is far more good than bad here. I guess if you are already a fan of AmartiA, than "In A Quiet Place…" is definitely one for the collection, but if you are new to the band it might be better to start with one of their earlier albums.
